Manager, First Year Experience

Position Description: Leads development, implementation and assessment of a variety of initiatives designed to improve the quality of learning and student experience in the first year, increase first year student retention rates and improve student success. Initiatives include the ongoing development of the Introduction to University Life course (ASC 101) and associated learning community and non-learning community versions, and identification and scheduling of Freshman Foundation courses. Collaborates with a variety of university stakeholders and the community to expand CSU's entering first year student experience. Participates in the American Association of State Colleges & Universities (AASCU) national project to reimagine the first year of college, and serves on university committees studying first year initiatives. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and four years experience working with college freshmen required. Experience teaching at the college level. Experience in course development and supervising/training instructors. Proven leadership in program management. Experience in design and implementation of academic first year programming. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to student learning. Familiarity with course management systems, student information systems, early alert systems, and learning management systems. Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Strong verbal and written skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. PC proficiency, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Preferred Qualifications: Five years experience leading a first year experience program and implementing course programming. Direct experience in establishing and/or coordinating learning communities. Knowledge of entering first year cohort course scheduling process. Experience teaching freshman seminar courses. Experience with peer mentoring programs. Experience supervising graduate students and interns.
