Cloud Analyst for Research

Position Summary

Michigan State University employs multiple solutions in their hybrid cloud strategy, IT Services at MSU is seeking an individual to assist with the service design and deployment of this hybrid cloud strategy. An ideal candidate will be asked to develop relationships with researchers and academic units across campus to serve their business needs as well as building connections within IT Services teams to broker the optimal, most efficient technical solution. The main objective of this role is to enable researchers and instructors to quickly access cloud and on-premises services, guiding them to a solution appropriate to their workloads, problem domain, and compliance requirements.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed, such as high-performance computing, cloud computing, research computation, research data management, workload scripting, creating application container, distributed application management; experience consulting with research faculty; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Desired Qualifications

Advanced degree desired. Have experience conducting research in an academic setting, preferably using information technology. Must have experience providing technical solutions and services around cloud or on-premise data centers. ITIL Foundations certification or equivalent. Amazon Web Service, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft AZURE certifications and training is desired. Preferable someone who understands the needs of high speed computing, big data and machine learning. Co-author on at least one technology-enabled research paper, published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
