Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor degree and two years of visual/graphic arts and web design experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in web design and/or illustration is a plus.

Job Duties: The Department of Creative Services provides skilled professional graphic design services to the academic and administrative departments of East Carolina University to enable them to communicate more effectively with their various publics while maintaining the university's image in both printed publications and on the World Wide Web. To assist in achieving this objective the addition of a Visual Arts Specialist position is essential because of the increased number of publications handled by the department, the complexities of the design and production required for these publications, and the need for web page design. This individual will help to maintain a visual identity program for the university. In that role, he or she will report to the Director of Design and work with administrators, faculty and staff members to market the university and its programs to its various audiences. The Visual Arts Specialist will create and develop designs for specific print and digital communications so that they are consistent and compatible with the positive image that the university wants to project. The Visual Arts Specialist will be charged with interpreting the purpose of each publication (given such factors as audience, distribution, and budget) or web page and developing an appropriate design in keeping with the university's visual identity system.
