Assistant Professor of Mexican American Studies
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MEXICAN AMERICAN STUDIES
RESPONSIBILITIES: The School of Arts, Communication and Social Sciences is seeking a full-time professor of Mexican American Studies. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Dean and will work collaboratively with colleagues and the department chair. This position requires a candidate skilled in teaching primarily MAS 141/HIST 141 Mexican-American History I and MAS 142/HIST142 Mexican-American History II courses. It may also include contributing to curriculum development projects, such as creating interdisciplinary courses and/or technology-enhanced curriculum. Responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, the following: teaching all scheduled classes and maintaining office hours; class preparation; curriculum development duties; assessment and evaluation of students; monitoring and record keeping of student performance; attendance at meetings pertinent to faculty responsibilities or assignments, including committee meetings; and involvement in selected staff development and/or extracurricular activities. Faculty should also observe proper channels of communication, enforce the policies and regulations of the college and strive to improve and support college programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Chicano Studies or Ethnic Studies (American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino studies, LA Raza Studies or Latin American Studies) OR the equivalent, OR possession of a valid California Community College Instructor Credential in Chicano Studies.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in the field, experience in online andragogy/pedagogy and community student outreach activities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Upon initial employment, full-time faculty members are placed on the salary schedule based on years of experience and education. The maximum initial placement for experience is Step 6. Faculty members are encouraged to continue their professional development through additional study qualifying them for advancement on the salary schedule.
