Position Summary: Position Summary The School of Social Work at The University of Alabama invites applications for a faculty person who is eligible for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure. The position is a nine-month, full time, 1.0 FTE academic appointment. We seek a talented and innovative scholar who is actively engaged in research and will bring depth to their teaching of courses, and service to the university, community and profession. Classroom and/ or online teaching in the faculty member's area of expertise will also be expected. The school will provide generous resources in support of the faculty member's program of scholarly research. As a community of knowledge builders, we are looking for a productive, collegial, and creative colleague who, through their scholarship, research and teaching, will bring new perspectives to the synthesis of social work practice, policy, theory and research to our school and university. As is expected of all senior faculty members in the School, the faculty member will be expected to mentor junior colleagues and students in developing and carrying out their research and scholarship activities.

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have a MSW and an earned doctorate in social work, social welfare, or a closely related field. Candidates must show an exceptionally strong record of externally funded research, nationally recognized scholarship, which includes published research in refereed journals and/or books and a continuing record of mentoring junior faculty and doctoral students. We are strongly invested in recruiting colleagues who, in their practice and research, demonstrate experience with, knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse and underrepresented populations and communities, as well as a commitment to social justice. Applicants should have an interest and expertise in reaching our diverse student body through online and face-to-face instructional education. Preferred Qualifications Preferable qualifications include two years post MSW practice experience. Although all substantive areas will be seriously considered, we are especially interested in applicants who have expertise in the areas of: behavioral health, community mental health practice, military social work or social work practice with veterans. School of Social Work The University's School of Social Work, established in 1966, has an accomplished faculty of 24 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 11 full-time teaching faculty and 21 dedicated professional and support staff. The School has a long-standing internship program in Washington, DC and several international initiatives in locations including China, Hong Kong, Mexico, Ghana, South Korea, Scotland and Uganda. The School of Social Work has an active enrollment of approximately 383 students in the MSW program, 211 students in the BSW program and 30 students in the Ph.D. program. Compensation Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes a benefits package with healthcare, reduced tuition rates, and retirement.
