Mills College is now Hiring Swim Instructors & Lifeguards

The Trefethen Aquatics Center at Mills College ("the pool") is hiring! Looking for a fun job where you earn while you learn valuable skills you will use for life?

The Trefethen Aquatics Center is always looking for fun, charismatic people that want to learn, teach, and work with others in a supportive, educational environment.
As an employee of the Trefethen Aquatics Center at Mills College there are three main functions:

  • Swim Teacher - Everyone teaches!  Safety is education AND supervision.  Teaching is the foundation for safety for all.
  • Lifeguard - Everyone lifeguards!  (Cannot be on shift until you have ARC Lifeguard Training current certification.)
  • Pool Attendant - Work at the front desk greeting guests, promoting and distributing information on pool programs as needed and qualified.  
Don't have Lifeguard Training? That's ok! We are looking for quality employees that can do all jobs at the pool, work with people well, and are eager to learn and teach. Every employee must have a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification within 3 months of hire date. We provide the class at a $100 discount to employees. If you do not have a Lifeguard certification upon hire, we will begin your swim teacher and pool attendant training.

Never taught Swimming before? That’s ok! We offer paid trainings to all qualified applicants. Learn from the best and get paid at the same time!

Basic Requirements:
  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Must have current Lifeguard certification or be willing to become certified upon hire
  • Must have current Oxygen Administration certification (preferred)
  • Must enjoy swimming !

Additional Information:
Compensation: This is a temporary, part-time position that begins as soon as possible. Additional semester appointments are possible, based on job performance.  The pay is commensurate with experience and certification (between $12.86 and $16.00/hour).  Mandated benefits, including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, and sick leave are included.
