ASSOC DIRECTOR, UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM
Duties: The Associate Director of the Upward Bound Program assists the Director with the successful development, implementation, assessment, and sustainability of University of Pennsylvania's Upward Bound Program. The program engages 105 high school students in rigorous academic instruction, academic counseling, college preparatory activities, and cultural enrichment opportunities. Upward Bound serves high school students that are first generation college students and/or from low-income families. The goal of Upward bound is to increase the rates at which participants enroll in and graduate from post-secondary institutions. The Associate Director assists with the recruiting, interviewing, training and supervision of part-time staff.
Qualifications: BA/BS required, A Master's Degree preferred and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required with a concentration in education, social or behavioral sciences or related field highly desirable. Administrative and supervisory experience, preferably in higher education or student services. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Proficient in computing applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Demonstrated commitment to post-secondary access for public school students. Knowledge of the School District of Philadelphia and the Department of Education TRiO Programs a plus. Demonstrated commitment to diversity. Goal oriented, self-initiating and highly motivated. Position contingent upon grant funding. Position requires evening and weekend work, especially during the six-week summer residential program.
