Position Summary: The School of Social Work at The University of Alabama invites applications for the position of DSW Program Director. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled expected start date is August 16, 2018. The successful candidate will effectively communicate a vision for creation, leadership and administration of the Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program. The successful candidate will be eligible for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work collegially and effectively across and within multiple academic, student and community audiences. Qualifications and characteristics include, but are not limited to: * MSW from a CSWE accredited school with two years post MSW experience and an earned doctorate in social work or a closely related field * An active research agenda * Licensed social worker or license eligible * Experience in teaching and advising doctoral students * Knowledge of face to face and on-line program planning, evaluation and assessment, curriculum development and monitoring students' progress * Two years on-line teaching experience * Experience in on-line course and program development * At least 2 years prior academic administrative experience

A stipend is allocated for this position and paid out over 12 months. Typically, the DSW Director also has a half-time summer administrative appointment. POSITION DESCRIPTION DSW Program Director Overview The DSW Program Director provides administrative oversight to the DSW Program. The DSW Program Director is a member of the UA School of Social Work executive committee and chairs the DSW Program committee. Reporting Relationship The DSW Program Director reports directly to the Associate Dean of Educational Services and supervises support faculty and staff associated with the DSW Program including the Distance learning coordinator, face-to-face session instructors adjunct faculty and the DSW Program Assistant. General Duties a. Serve as chair of the DSW Program Committee b. Coordinate of main campus course offerings c. Coordinate of on-line courses offerings including face to face sessions d. Coordinate of DSW student advising e. Facilitate the DSW student orientations f. Monitor and evaluation of DSW Program curriculum. g. Coordinate of DSW Program admission procedures h. Assist with DSW retention efforts and recruitment i. Review faculty syllabi for DSW Program j. Facilitate Professional Preparedness reviews for DSW social work students k. Coordinate with the Associate Dean for Educational Programs and Student Services DSW student issues such as academic misconduct, grade appeals, and exceptions to academic policies Integrated Academic Planning Coordination a. Member of the Executive Committee b. In consultation with BSW, MSW PhD and Field Program Directors and the Associate Dean for Educational Programs and Student Services, the DSW Program Director assists with course scheduling activities. c. Coordinates information and prioritizes data from DSW program so there is a balance of interest in teaching and meeting the needs of programmatic curricula needs in a timely manner. d. Recommends adjunct faculty for hire and evaluates adjunct faculty in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Educational Programs and Student Services. Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement Planning, Implementation and Integration a. The DSW Program Director along with the Dean, the BSW Program Director, MSW Program Director, the PhD Program Director, Faculty Committees and the Associate Dean for Educational Programs and Student Services will assist with SSW Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement protocols as specified by CSWE and other bodies as needed (e.g., SACS). Community Partnerships a. Provides ongoing assistance to expand, diversify and improve the depth and connectivity of our community partnerships. b. Ensures continuous and effective communication regarding local, regional, national and international trends in doctoral social work. University Committees and Reports a. Assists with the development of internal and external reports, handbooks, and other documents. b. Creation of the DSW handbook for faculty and staff, students and field education and assist with updates of the Graduate Catalogs. Accreditation/Reaffirmation Coordination (SACS) a. Assists with the coordination of revision components. Other duties a. Other duties as assigned by Dean (special projects).
