#018-18 ASSISTANT PROFESSOR TO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (PHILOSOPHY)
The University of Guam is looking for an individual who is interested in new challenges and opportunities for professional and personal growth. This position calls for someone who is self-motivated and adaptable, intelligent, possesses a global vision and who is interested in working in a dynamic, multi-cultural institution.
Philosophy is a program within the Division of Humanities, which also includes Anthropology, History, Modern Languages, and Pacific Asian Studies.
CHARACTER OF DUTIES:
Teach four (4) courses per semester (with load reduction available), undergraduate and graduate, summer and intercession work available. No thesis supervision, though usual non-teaching duties required. Candidates are expected to show a willingness to address the needs of the Micronesian Region through the University’s teaching, research, and service programs.
Minimum: Ph.D. in Philosophy from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent by August 2017 (ABDs are welcome to apply, provided the doctorate is attained by the time employment begins. Must be willing to teach online.
Preferred: Area of Specialization (AOS): Philosophy for Children (P4C), Ethics, Critical Thinking. Area of Competence (AOC): History of Philosophy, Logic, Asian Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion. Candidates must also be highly proficient in computer skills and prepared to teach online, for the purpose of developing the online learning capacities of our program. Finally, candidates must be prepared to coordinate with the University of Guam’s School of Education and also the Guam Department of Education, in order to build a Philosophy for Children program for the primary schools of the island of Guam.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience relevant to the position. The following salary figures are for nine (9) months:
$39,473 - $68,237 Per Academic Year
$43,703 - $77,498 Per Academic Year
Compensation for employment shall not commence until all hiring conditions are met, including required employment visa. Annual salary will be prorated, if start of employment is delayed.
