Job description

Duties: The Associate Director will serve as the primary media contact for at least five varsity sports, including at least one major sport, with travel involved as appropriate; assist with media coordination of The Penn Relays, which annually welcomes more than 400 media members from across the world; serve as primary designer and editor of external publications including PennSport -- the department's quarterly magazine -- Franklin Field Illustrated (football game-day program), Palestra Illustrated (basketball game-day programs), football and basketball yearbooks; manage elements of social media output, including a heavy focus on graphic design, for Penn Athletics and team-related accounts for Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat, Facebook, etc.; help supervise two full-time interns and manage all of the office's work-study staff; oversee game-day operations related to statistical and media activities for sports; provide support as Penn moves to a responsive web site and updated mobile platforms; support inter-office departmental needs including, but not limited to, the Penn Sports Network/Ivy League Digital Network, marketing, development, Penn Quakers Sports Properties (JMI Sports), and facilities/operations.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Communications or journalism preferred; minimum 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior sports information experience preferred. Computer knowledge with desktop publishing and in-game statistics mandatory; strong grasp of AP style necessary for quality control of all publications. Knowledge of NCAA/Ivy League policies and procedures. Position requires frequent travel and willingness to work evenings/weekends/holidays as necessary. Valid drivers license required.
