Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board certified specialists that are nationally and even internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 30,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, expert clinical instruction for 4th-year veterinary students from College of Veterinary Medicine, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.

Essential Job Duties: The Medical Laboratory Supervisor oversees the day to day operations of the veterinary histology laboratory. This involves the supervision of 4-5 employees to insure all laboratory diagnostic and research samples are processed and the results report out in a timely manner.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: Capable of functioning as a clinical laboratory technician, understand laboratory equipment and processes. Competent in establishing SOPs compliant with both State and Federal regulatory agencies. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or a Biological Science. 3 year of laboratory experience related to the area of assignment.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: BS degree in clinical laboratory science. 5-7 years of laboratory technician experience in veterinary histology. 3-5 years in laboratory management.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: ASCP certified
