POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor of Special Education

EFFECTIVE DATE: August 20, 2018 (Fall Semester)

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience


Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education or related field in education.
Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the degree by August 1, 2018.
Special Education teaching license.
Evidence of a sustained and effective record of teaching in public, urban K-12 schools.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of current best practices in Special Education.
Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at the college level appropriate to the teaching assignment.
A strong record or potential to develop a strong record of scholarly productivity in Special Education.
Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.

Particular expertise and licensure for teaching students with moderate/severe disabilities.
Experience with and knowledge of support services relevant to children with autism spectrum disorders.
Experience with inclusive education practices in K-12 classrooms. Demonstrated commitment to teacher preparation in collaborative, diverse settings.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching a range of courses in Special Education, including, but not limited to: Emerging Issues in Special Education, Urban Education, Collaboration, Advocacy in Special Education, Induction in Special Education, Research in Special Education, Assessment.
Demonstrated skills to mentor Special Education teachers, including new teachers addressing induction standards in Special Education.
Demonstrated experience with master's thesis supervision and student advising.
Demonstrated experience with coordination of programs at the graduate level.
Evidence of strong engagement in and dissemination of research and scholarship (i.e., publications, presentations) in Special Education.
