Job Duties: The primary responsibility of the Pathologists Assistant will be participation on the surgical pathology service (dictation, dissection, submission of sections for microscopic examination, assistance with performance of frozen section, specimen photography, support of tissue procurement for clinical research/trials). The incumbent will be expected to be proficient in surgical pathology prosection and may on occasion need to log in specimens or place specimens on tissue processors. The Pathologists Assistant may on occasion be required to stay after normal working hours to assist in specimen prosection or frozen sections. He/she may also assist in the instruction of students, residents and fellows. Other responsibilities may involve maintaining teaching collections including digital image electronic files and information, slide scanning, and assisting with autopsy cases and call as needed. The Pathologists Assistant reports to the department chair or his designee. Other duties may be assigned, consistent with the incumbent's position and training.
