Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering supports the land-grant mission of NC State University. It provides engineering leadership in the development and dissemination of knowledge related to the efficient utilization of biological and agricultural systems and to the preservation and management of natural resources.
Essential Job Duties: The Extension Assistant position will support the stormwater management, stream assessment, research and ecological design projects for the Stream Restoration Program within the Biological & Agricultural Engineering (BAE) Department. The position duties will include; performing field assessments and surveys, design, landuse analyses, and modeling work under the supervision of BAE Dept. faculty and staff to support stream and stormwater monitoring, assessment and restoration projects.
Minimum Education/Experience: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related discipline, with 3+ years of related experience.
Department Required Skills: * Ability to deal with long, hard field days is necessary, along with some overnight travel. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Ability to work independently and possess the management and organizational skills necessary to provide day-to-day support in the position. * Ability to work effectively work diverse individuals and groups. * Experience with spreadsheet software.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related discipline, with 3+ year of related experience in ecological design, stormwater management, stream geomorphology and hydraulics, watershed hydrology, and stream restoration design. * Master's degree in Engineering, or a related field. * Experience with total station and robotic surveying equipment, AutoCAD, GIS, field monitoring protocols and technical report writing.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid NC drivers license is required for travel. NC drivers license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
