Department Summary: The Budget Office is responsible for creating the University's revenue, salary and operating budgets each fiscal year and managing these budgets throughout the year. The Budget Office provides support to all University departments to help manage their departmental budgets and assess throughout the year any anticipated variances as compared to budget. The Budget Office prepares quarterly fiscal year status and projection reports based on actual activity, assumptions, and historical trends along with department provided information. At fiscal year end, the Budget Office prepares year end reporting. All employment requisitions (replacement and new positions) are approved by the Budget Office prior to Human Resources posting of the position. The Budget Office works closely with Human Resources in maintaining position information along with ensuring that the financial impact of employee changes throughout the year are captured.

Position Summary: The primary duties of the Assistant Director, Budget Office are processing and analyzing budget reports, working with departmental budget managers to answer questions or resolve problems, updating/maintaining policies and procedures for the Budget Office, and ensuring compliance with BSU financial system security rules and regulations.

Essential Duties: Assisting the Budget Director with the preparation and analysis of all reporting, including but not limited to all monthly budget reporting, payroll reporting, ad hoc reports and multi-year forecasting to assist with accomplishing strategic goals. Maintaining detailed spreadsheets and database to track position inventory and payroll expenditures by position. Maintaining LCM Labor Distribution profiles. Working with Budget Director to evaluate system improvements or new systems to improve utilization, access and reporting. Providing training for Banner Finance. Maintaining security profiles for employees using BSU finance systems. Working with departmental budget managers to resolve questions/problems related to Banner and/or budgets. Working cooperatively with department budget managers and the University community. Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business or a closely related discipline, as well as four years of related experience. Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet, database and word processing software (Microsoft Office). Demonstrated knowledge of budget management such as preparation, monitoring, analyzing and reporting. Significant experience managing a large volume of varied fiscal management tasks such as financial reconciliations. Ability to work independently with little supervision and as an effective member of a team, maintain strict confidentiality, and produce work with a high degree of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population while exercising discretion and good judgement.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in business or a closely related discipline. Experience working with large relational databases such as Banner. Knowledge of PeopleSoft - HR/CMS, LCM, MMARS. Higher education experience.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
