POSITION DESCRIPTION: Non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Spanish

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Spanish, evidence of teaching excellence, an active research agenda

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  A specialization in Latin American Literature, experience with or interest in Spanish for Specific Purposes, Second-Language Acquisition/Foreign Language Education, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, and on-line, distance learning. The ability to teach lower-level German or French would be a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  To teach an average of 12 hours per semester across a broad range of courses, including introductory language courses; upper-level language, culture and literature courses; and courses in Spanish for Specific Purposes. In addition, candidates will be expected to perform departmental and university service: 60% Teaching, 20% Service, and 20% Scholarship/Research.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Modern Languages at Fort Hays State University offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish for Specific Purposes and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Language and Teacher Education. Students may also earn a minor or certificate in Spanish or German. In addition, the department offers lower-level language instruction in Spanish, German, French and Chinese.
