The Department of Art at Sam Houston State University invites applications for tenure-track position in Photography, Assistant Professor rank, with a 2-3 teaching load, beginning August 2018. The Department of Art at SHSU is committed to diversity and respect for all people in our faculty and student population. We are seeking candidates who will be dedicated to cultivating a community of inclusivity and diversity in The Department of Art at SHSU through teaching, research, and/or service.
The ideal candidate will be an artist with expertise in traditional darkroom, alternative process, digital photographic techniques, and studio lighting who is familiar with a wide range of photographic equipment and processes. A strong knowledge of the history of photography and critical/theoretical issues in contemporary photography is essential. The successful candidate will be an active faculty member within the department, college, university, local and professional communities. Artists engaged in social practice are strongly encouraged to apply.
Educational Requirements for the Position
Candidates must possess an MFA or terminal degree in a related field and demonstrate outstanding potential in research and/or creative activity.
Experience Required for the Position
Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is strongly preferred. Professional experience is also an asset.
