ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF BASIC RESEARCH, DERMATOLOGY
Duties: The Dermatology Department Associate Director of Basic Research works closely with the Vice Chair of Basic Research to provide administrative, operational and scientific/technical support to the Skin Biology Disease and Resource-based Center. Helps to develop strategic initiatives and write/execute proposals and project plans for multi-investigator projects, directs the organization and implementation of annual research retreats and symposia, and assists with the coordination of high level activities within the Center such as recruitment of faculty, seminar series speakers, journal clubs, pilot grants, etc. The Associate Director will assist Vice Chairs in maintaining information needed for T32 training grant and SBDRC grant renewals, and assists in authoring key sections of non-competitive and competitive renewals. Serves as liaison with PIs and Derm IT group regarding database and web page design and content updates related to the T32 training grant, the SBDRC grant, and the academic web site.
Working under the direction of the Director of Research Operations, the Associate Director is also responsible for supporting efforts related to biorepository and collection/storage of samples, including development/approval of IRBs and Databases for appropriate handling of Protected Health Information (PHI), consenting/collection of samples, and coordination of Material Transfer Agreements as needed. The incumbent will organize communications for the research labs and oversee the general, day to day operations of the research labs, supporting utilization and assignment of space, purchasing and implementation of new equipment, and ensuring compliance with university, state and federal research lab protocols, standards and guidelines. The Associate Director will oversee issue resolution for basic research equipment and facilities, and work with administrative and faculty leaders to plan and implement lab-related moves and renovations as well as efforts to optimize utilization of existing space. S/he will assist Department Leadership in planning new equipment purchases and orient new personnel to ensure proper operation of equipment and use of PPE.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 5 years to 7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Additional years of experience or advanced degree is a plus.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills, as well as strong planning, organization and independent decision-making capabilities.
