Duties: The Managing Director of the Baker Retailing Center will work in partnership with the Director to develop a clear strategic direction and a sound implementation plan for the Center. This will include working collaboratively with the Director to develop/foster key relationships in the retail industry to join the Advisory Board or Directors' Council of Baker, and to actively engage these individuals at Wharton. At the current time, Baker has one Advisory Board and one Directors' Council. It is the responsibility of the Managing Director, in partnership with the Director, to:
- define a new strategy and value proposition to attract new members for the Advisory Board as the current members retire/resign
- continue to identify appropriate new members for the Directors' Council
- develop a vision for the interplay between the Directors' Council and Advisory Board
- create a new board presence on the West Coast and potentially a separate board in Asia. These responsibilities will require identifying prospects, building the relationships with these prospects, and converting the prospects into board members and engaged partners with Wharton. The membership criteria for these boards and councils are similar to those of the current Advisory Board and Directors' Council: C-suite individuals in the most highly regarded organizations in the industry.

The Managing Director will be responsible for managing a staff of 4 people, including the Research Director, the Director of Alumni and Student Affairs, the Associate Director of Operations, Finance, and Administration (new position), and the Administrative Coordinator/Assistant. Together, with the appropriate staff and in partnership with the Director, the Managing Director will be responsible to support the Center's integration of academia and industry. This includes the development and facilitation of innovative industry round tables and conferences; advising, placement and curricular development for undergraduates and MBA students; and financial management of Baker Retailing Center resources.

Qualifications: A Master's Degree or more and over 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The candidate must have the ability to foster and cultivate strong relationships, especially with external constituents. This position requires creativity, outstanding strategic thinking capabilities, initiative, and excellent communication skills. The individual must be able to advance multiple projects through completion while simultaneously creating and implementing future opportunities. Excellent writing, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are necessary. This position will require significant travel, both domestically and internationally.
