Position Summary: The Department of Mathematics at The University of Alabama invites applications for a position as an associate or full professor of mathematics, with a research specialty in mathematical traffic modeling, beginning on August 16, 2018 or as negotiated. We want to expand our existing applied math group that has strengths in mathematical modeling, scientific computation, and optimization. We are looking for a mathematician who will interact with the recently formed Alabama Transportation Institute (www.ati.ua.edu). We have a preference for a mathematician whose work involves the applications of PDEs to the modeling of traffic flow. However, mathematicians working on other aspects of traffic flow, including optimization, stochastic modeling and data analysis, are welcome to apply.

The successful candidate must possess a doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related field and will be appointed as an associate professor; outstanding candidates will be considered for appointment as a full professor. All candidates should have a well established reputation for scholarship, a proven track record of securing external funding, demonstrated excellence at graduate and undergraduate education, and a willingness to supervise undergraduate and graduate research.
