BTEC Scientist (I/II)

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. BTEC's audience includes NCSU students and working professionals already involved in biomanufacturing or related industries. BTEC also provides bioprocess development and analytical services to a wide range of customers from academia and industry.
Essential Job Duties: The Scientist will develop and/or deliver courses on biomanufacturing topics to industry professionals, especially as related to our new Gene Therapy training program. In addition, the Scientist will develop, validate and execute assays in support of BTEC's Analytical Services program. Scientists are expected to seek out and write proposals for grants, publish/present, and gain recognition outside of BTEC.
Minimum Education/Experience: * B.S.* in life science (biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, or related discipline) with * 5 years of relevant experience, Or M.S. with 3 years of relevant experience. * Expertise in assay development and/or molecular biology as related to bio pharmaceutical applications. *Required degree must be completed prior to start date.
Department Required Skills: * Proficiency with MS Office suite, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint. * Good written and verbal communication skills, and particularly the ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form. * Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with students from the university and from industry. * Ability to work independently and as a team member. * Knowledge of laboratory safety and biosafety practices.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * B.S. in life science with 10 years of relevant experience * M.S. in life science (biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, or related discipline) with 5 years of relevant experience * Prior experience in teaching industry short courses * Prior experience in teaching at the college level. * Experience that led to successful completion of an assay development project. * Ability to develop assays as well as running assays
