Primary Function of Organization Unit: As part of the Land Grant University, the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is composed of over 40 faculty that direct a diverse portfolio of programs in teaching, research and extension components. Collectively, these strengths not only serve our clientele and our science, but also provide a rich environment for graduate education and training that can be tailored to the specific career interests of the student, irrespective of whether they prefer training in the basic sciences or are preparing for a career in extension. Essential Job Duties: The Research Technician position will have primary responsibility for maintaining wild type and transgenic insect strains. The position will perform crosses between strains and record data that will go towards research publication(s). The position will work with other department personnel to develop new transgenic strains on a as needed basis. *This position is time-limited.*
Department Required Skills: * Rearing and crossing transgenic insect strains. * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Bachelor's degree in biology, genetics, entomology or related discipline. * Prior experience with rearing and maintaining insects, especially flies and insects that feed on living plants. * Prior experience with using stereo fluorescence microscopy to identify genetically modified organisms.
