Position Summary: Job Summary: The Director of Special Projects oversees applied research efforts in the Institute of Business Analytics (IBA) which includes the organization, coordination, and execution of extramurally funded projects. The broad scope of responsible tasks include but are not limited to a leadership role for existing grant-funded research, the drafting of grant proposals, private-industry consultations, and university-wide research support that span multiple academic units. More specifically, the Director of Special Projects is responsible for ensuring the proper and efficient management and completion of research and/or contract oriented-tasks, which entails managing IBA research faculty and staff for project related activities, aiding in the establishment of both short-term and long-term objectives, standing meetings to discuss progress, and documentation of planned and completed activities. Moreover, it is imperative that the Director of Special Projects has the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks, as well as quickly problem-solve when adjustments are needed. Additionally, she/he will serve in a traditional research capacity by performing investigative roles via analytical/statistical support for projects concurring with assigned effort. The Director of Special Projects will also serve as a mentor by providing supervision to student employees (hourly, GRAs, fellows) to ensure that their experiential learning requirements are met and in-keeping with the mission of the IBA. Finally, this position will serve as chair of the annual Business Analytics Symposium.

Minimum Preferred Qualifications: Required Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree and 3 years of data science research experience. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system skills, or security technology. Advanced knowledge of project management methods and applications. Supervision of people and other resources. Skills and Knowledge: Familiarity with concepts of software management, .NET technologies, Web services, SAS, SAS Enterprise Miner, SAS Enterprise Guide, R, SPSS, SQL, Tableau, and ArcGIS. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Very strong organizational skills are also needed. Preferred Qualifications: M.B.A. with an emphasis on data analytics and at least 3 years of working in a data science field. Documented experience of personnel and project management. Given the amount of existing projects that involve the integration of business intelligence through data visualization, the applicant will ideally have some experience with using visual analytic platforms (e.g., Tableau *, SAS Visual Analytics *, Microsoft Power BI *, etc.) to explore solutions to business oriented problems. Lastly, since the SRCL is an interdisciplinary research lab that works on a broad spectrum research questions, it is preferred that the applicant has a willingness to learn new research methods when needed.
