Job description

Duties: Perform tasks related to the collection, segregation, storage, packaging, transport and disposal of waste chemicals. Assist in a variety of inspections to ensure compliance with the University's policies and procedures related to chemical waste collection, storage and disposal of chemicals. Perform regulatory inspections of aboveground and underground storage tanks to comply with State and Federal environmental statutes. Participate as a member in the University's hazardous materials response team. Remain current with federal, state and local regulations related to the EPA, DEP, DOT, FDA and OSHA. Support the University's asbestos management program; Conduct building inspections and complete reports, conduct air and bulk sampling for asbestos, provide oversight for asbestos abatement projects, including duties as a Philadelphia asbestos project inspector. Provide support as needed to the University's indoor air quality efforts.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or related field. 1-2 years related work experience; ability to demonstrate through either formal training or work experiences an understanding of working with and lab packing chemicals for disposal. Current 40 hour HAZWOPER certificate and DOT hazmat training preferred. EPA certified Asbestos Building Inspector or City of Philadelphia Asbestos Project Inspector certification desired. Knowledge of database systems helpful. Valid driver's license. Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as respirators and goggles and to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment (approximately 40-50 lbs.)
