Duties: Reporting to the Director of Wharton Media Relations, the Associate Director of Media Relations is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with journalists who interact with Wharton's 225+ world-renowned professors and the news-making activities at our Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Beijing campus locations. Serve as a spokesperson for the School and promote the Wharton brand via external media, campus media, social media and other platforms. Spearhead media relations office's media tracking and measurement analysis efforts. Serve as key liaison: within Wharton's ten academic departments and 20 research centers; across the University including Penn Communications; with dozens of student and faculty conferences; and for high level visits by journalists. Build relationships with professors to access and analyze latest research for dissemination to the media. Audit media and maintain outstanding intelligence for new PR opportunities e.g. op-eds, LinkedIn posts, joint events, partnerships for [email protected] Serve as a contact for the School's PR agency of record and other vendors. Coordinate radio-TV interviews for faculty, staff and students via Penn ISC and Penn Video. Contribute to the planning and implementation of the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists which occur three times annually at various locations; responsible for building on relationships with journalists who are invited to attend these high visibility and prestigious events.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations or Communications or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in a high volume media relations environment. Working knowledge of higher education preferred. Excellent oral, written, listening, editing and presentation skills. Must possess subject matter expertise including thorough knowledge of media with a proven ability to pitch stories to journalists. Proficiency in social media management as related to media relations. Proven engagement experience with followers across major platforms including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube. Experience with HTML and WordPress required. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently. Occasional travel and evening/weekend hours required.
