Position Summary: The Division of Pharmacoengineering and Molecular Pharmaceutices (DPMP) seeks to create new methods of targeted delivery to optimize therapeutic efficacy of drugs and vaccines. This is accomplished by the integration of drug-delivery science, nanotechnology, and pharmacoengineering, an emerging discipline that integrates engineering methods with pharmaceutical sciences. The division works closely with other divisions within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, as well as other divisions across campus, including numerous researchers from the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. DPMP researchers have generated more than $8.5M in annual support from the NIH and NSF. This includes the NIH-funded Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery that brings together scientists to create nano-scale pharmaceutical innovations for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. The Hingtgen Lab is seeking to fill a Research Scientist position with expertise in culturing and testing clinical versions of personalized tumor-homing stem cell therapies, performing safety and efficacy testing in mouse models of brain cancer, developing and testing clinical versions of custom scaffold based cell therapy systems, and other research tasks necessary to launch a first-in-human clinical trials.
Education Requirements: M.D. or Ph.D. degree in Biomechanical Engineering.
Qualification and Experience: - Have at least 1.5 years of post-doctoral training. - Preference will be given to candidates with experience in: 1. Culturing and manipulation of neural stem cells as well as stem cells. 2. The generation and use of tumoricidal neural stem cells for treatment of cancer. 3. Culture and delivery of stem cells on various bio-degradable scaffold technologies. 4. The creation of surgical resection models of cancer. 5. The delivery of scaffold/stem cell composites for treatment of post-surgical cancer. 6. A strong publication record, creative thinking, effective oral and written communication skills, and good team spirit.
