Position Summary: Information Technology Services at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is searching for an Application and Performance Database Administrator to join our Database Administration team. As an Application and Performance Database Administrator you will be responsible for helping application owners and developers design, test, tune, and implement database technologies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, most often with an emphasis on PeopleSoft applications. As a member of our team the selected candidate will collaborate with developers, application administrators, systems and middleware administrators, as well as peers to provide outstanding support to the University of North Carolina and its community. Responsibilities and Duties for this position include: - Design, develop and implement database solutions to improve the stability and performance of our PeopleSoft and other enterprise application implementations. - Collaborate with PeopleSoft, as well as other Enterprise Application development teams throughout the software development lifecycle. - Collaborate with PeopleSoft, as well as other Enterprise Applications teams, to intelligently design and implement performant application environments. - Collaborate with University customers, as well as other team members, on projects involving application development, release, upgrade, and implementation. - Design, develop, and collaborate within the team on database monitoring and automation projects. - Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure the success of critical projects. - Support new and existing database designs to simplify maintenance and improve flexibility. - Evaluate and implement new database solutions/products, most often related to supporting the campus PeopleSoft environments. - Collaborate within the team to develop processes, procedures, and best practices. - Document processes and procedures to aid in the automation internal and customer facing tasks. - Collaborate within the team to integrate industry best practices and new techniques and technologies into our portfolio.

Education Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree preferred - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area; or a - Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Journey level requires an additional one year of education or experience. - Advanced level requires an additional two years of education or experience.
Qualification and Experience: REQUIRED - Excellent critical and analytical thinking skills are required - Possess the ability and desire to learn and apply new knowledge quickly and effectively - Proven problem solving and decision-making skills - Outstanding organizational skills - Ability to multi-task and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment - Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with general direction - Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written language - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others PREFERRED The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience with: - Oracle 11g/12c performance tuning and administration - PeopleSoft application performance tuning - PeopleSoft database performance tuning - PeopleSoft code optimization - PeopleSoft architecture design - Developing database maintenance processes to optimize use of resources - Design and implementation of highly available database environments - Supported and standard methods for patching and upgrades - Migration, consolidation and/or conversation of databases to new platforms - System and storage resource management - Backup, recovery, and virtualization technologies - Oracle OEM/Cloud Control, RMAN, and DataGuard to support configuration, backup and recovery, job scheduling, patching, and compliance - Handling multiple, competing priorities and projects - Experience with a scripting languages (such as Unix/Linux Shell scripts, Python, Perl, etc.) or tools (Pentaho) to make maintenance/auditing tasks repeatable and predictable
