Job description

Job Summary A personable and motivated person is expected to conduct independent research dealing with the nonpathogenic bacteria Escherichia coli and Myxococcus xanthus. The research will involve deciphering how M. xanthus cells communicate with each other to perform a complex developmental cycle. The individual is expected to collect reproducible and publishable data. The techniques to be utilized include microscopy (phase contrast and fluorescence), molecular biology (PCR, cloning, strain construction, agarose gel electrophoresis), lipid purification and analaysis, and protein chemistry (protein purification, enzyme assays, Western blotting). This person will also aid Dr. Shimkets in the day to day management of the laboratory including supervising undergraduate students, teaching students techniques, purchasing, chemical inventory and hazardous waste management.
