Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences conducts research, teaching, extension, and outreach in Food Science, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition.
Essential Job Duties: The Lecturer position will teach undergraduate courses in the Department of of Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences. Courses being taught include FS 201 "Introduction to Food Science" and FS 330 "The Science of Food Preparation". "Introduction to Food Science" is a course that provides an introduction to the chemistry, microbiology, and engineering that form integral components of the discipline of food science. "The Science of Food Preparation" course will allow students to prepare foods to run analysis of the chemistry of the prepared foods. The position will also coordinate labs for departmental courses FS 402 "Chemistry of Food and Bioprocessed Products" and FS 406 "Food Microbiology ". The position will supervise the work of teaching assistants, deliver lab instructions to students, oversee lab work and proper lab techniques, including use of equipment, as well as maintain lab safety. Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's degree in Food Science or relevant related discipline. * Teaching experience at the university level.
Department Required Skills: * Excellent written and oral communication. * Excellent organization and time management skills. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff. * Laboratory experience.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * PhD in Food Science or relevant related discipline. * Laboratory experience in Food Science or associated disciplines. * Two years of relevant work experience desired (e.g., teaching, post-doc, industry or government, etc.). * Familiarity with teaching technology, methodology, and assessment. * Experience manage/supervising teaching assistants.
