STAFF WRITER C
Duties: The Staff Writer will serve as a writer and an editor for Penn Today, the daily online news magazine of the University; the annual Research at Penn Brochure; memos; and other materials, both in print and online. This is a general assignment position, and the Staff Writer will cover stories from around the University, as well as breaking news for Penn Today. The Staff Writer will also assist in writing events for the online Penn Today calendar, and assist in writing and editing content for portions of the Penn web managed by University Communications. The Staff Writer will contribute to the annual Research at Penn brochure, as well as any other special writing projects. This position is also expected to maintain a social media presence.
The Staff Writer will ensure that all written content is compatible with and meets the standards of University administration; they will organize and prioritize their workload, set schedule, and meet deadlines for various writing needs.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, English or related field preferred and 3 to 5 years professional writing experience, preferably for a newspaper, magazine, or web-based publication or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Conversant in social media communications. Requires superior spelling, grammar, and copy editing skills. Must have expertise in MS Word, Photoshop, content management systems. Comfort with project management system (Wrike) a plus. Knowledge of institutional communications practice a plus. Ability to communicate complicated topics to a lay audience. Ability to meet tight deadlines.
