RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: The Dodge Laboratory at the McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, University of Pennsylvania is seeking an individual to fill a full time research specialist position. The position is work on a project focused on translational orthopaedic research and osteoarthritis. Person will participate in studies investigating a novel therapeutic approach to cartilage healing and the prevention of osteoarthritis using large and small animal model. In addition, the project will include cartilage tissue engineering and a novel testing platform using both a specialized cell culture, mechanical loading bioreactor and a high throughput screening device. Both differentiated chondrocytes and undifferentiated mesenchymal stem cells will be used in generating new biological and clinically relevant tissue analogs to assess cartilage healing related to osteoarthritis. Interest in cell's response to mechanical loading, biomechanics, bioreactors, and use of cell and molecular biological approaches are expected. Participation laboratory management will be required and additional responsibilities will include such things a maintaining laboratory supplies, safety compliance and equipment training.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience in molecular biology techniques, cell culture and animal models expected; additional experience in mechanical engineering and tissue engineering is a plus. Evidence of research experience should include laboratory bench experience, and where appropriate, scientific publications and presentations. Position is available immediately.
