Job Summary As part of our GlyGen project (a data warehouse system for glycomics related data) the software developer will work on the implementation, testing, documentation and optimization of the glycan array data repository. This repository will allow users to submit, browse, search and download glycan array data. The main tasks will (1) the setup of a triplestore as backend for the repository; (2) implementation of a persistent layer to read and write into the triplestore; (3) implementation of a RESTful web service layer to allow web access to the triplestore; and (4) documentation of all components developed in 1-3. For the definition and implementation of the web services the developer will work close with another software developer that is implementing the graphical user interface of the data repository. For the implementation of the backend system the developer will use established programming tools and technologies such as Java, STRING and Swagger. As part of a five-year project, the year milestone for year one will be the implementation of a working but graphically simple prototype of the repository. In the following years this prototype will be improved with more advanced features bases on user specifications and the requirements of the graphical user interface. As part of a developer team the developer will work closely with other software developers on the same project requiring strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
