(Job #17-93) Facilities Maintenance Mechanic, $4,903 - $6,265/Month. Appointments are normally made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full-time, benefitted, 12 month pay plan, non-exempt position with a one-year probationary period in the Department of Housing & Residence Life. Regular work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday through Tuesday.

DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Housing Facility Services and instruction and direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs maintenance and repair duties in residence hall facilities, Jolly Giant Commons and University Center dining services facilities on a 12-month schedule. Performance of other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated journey-level skill in electrical trade and strong skills in structural building components and plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry trades, to include:
-Knowledge of heating, pneumatic, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other mechanical equipment, and knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in the operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment, and general knowledge of HVAC principles, closed water systems, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and other associated building systems.
-Working knowledge of building controls and PLC systems including the ability to understand and use the system features.
-Maintenance and repair of building mechanical systems and kitchen cooking equipment.
-Must possess knowledge and skills equivalent to those acquired through the completion of an HVAC, Sheet Metal, Plumbing, Building Operator, Stationary Engineer, or similar trade apprenticeship program.
-A California drivers license is required as well as the ability to drive automatic and standard transmission vehicles.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in a mechanical, electrical or carpentry building trades field of work.

-Ability to install, operate and repair HVAC equipment and electrical systems including pneumatic and digital control systems. Must demonstrate a high degree of mechanical skill or aptitude equivalent to journey level in one or more related trades such as; plumbing, pipe fitting, sheet metal, electrical, or air conditioning.
-Operate, test, install, repair, and perform corrective and preventive maintenance on mechanical facilities equipment and systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural building systems and finishes.
-Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications. Make rough sketches; estimate cost, time and material of assigned work; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record keeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semi skilled assistants; analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
Must be proficient with the operation of a computer for email, spreadsheets, word processing, and technical research.
-Demonstrated ability to work with staff, students and faculty from diverse backgrounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in general building maintenance in a University Residence Hall environment. Experience working with kitchen cooking equipment. Journey level skills in electrical applications.
