Job Description:

The Fredonia School of Music invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Class Piano (tenure track) to coordinate and teach in the class piano program, which intersects with all curricula. Position begins Fall 2018.

The Fredonia School of Music is a thriving program with approximately 600 undergraduate and graduate students served by over 100 full-time and part-time faculty and staff. The curriculum prepares students for careers in music performance, music education, sound recording, composition, jazz, and music therapy.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of the School of Music, the successful candidate will:

  • Teach piano classes for pianist and non-pianist music majors;
  • Contribute to curriculum development and refinement in collaboration with School of Music Faculty 
  • Lead the Class Piano program (oversee teaching faculty and coordinate faculty teaching assignments, recommend and implement curricular and pedagogical practices that represent the best current practice in the field of piano instruction, oversee piano labs, including recruiting and supervision of student proctors and acquiring and maintaining equipment, schedule piano classes, administer the student placement process, coordinate standard exams) 
  • Participate on committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession; 
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in Music from an accredited institution;
  • Demonstrated success in developing Class Piano curriculum;
  • Demonstrated success in teaching Class Piano courses; 
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission; 
  • Experience with instructional technology; 
  • Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated success in leading a Class Piano program with multiple teaching faculty;
  • Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, term appointed, tenure track position beginning August 20, 2018.
