    Temporary Lecturer Positions in Sculpture & Ceramics
    2017-2018 Academic Year

    Winter 2018 (January 8 - March 23, 2018)
    ART 51 Basic Ceramic Sculpture An introduction to basic clay construction, with specific emphasis on experimental and expanded approaches. Mixed media and non-traditional approaches to ceramics will be encouraged, incorporating interdisciplinary use of the wood shop, metal shop, and sculpture fabrication facilities. Students will be introduced to a broad range of historical and contemporary contexts, focusing on diverse sculptural ideas and hybrid practices.

    Spring 2018 (April 2 - June 14, 2018)
    ART 40 Basic Sculpture An introductory production course designed to help students acquire basic skills with primary tools throughout the sculpture shops toward developing a unique artistic spatial and material language of their own. Basic modes of construction in the wood shop, metal shop and mold-making areas will be demonstrated and then put into practice by students. Project assignments in sculpture will involve conceptual creative problem solving while providing a range of skills and techniques to help students give new forms to their ideas. Students will be introduced to a broad range of historical and contemporary sculptural ideas and practices.

    ART 151 Advanced Sculpture Through a sequence of projects that take up a range of sculptural concerns, students learn to spatialize their ideas, conceive, develop, and produce ambitious original sculpture projects employing and expanding upon beginning technical and conceptual skills. The class will work as a group to try to cultivate and distill the main strands of student's curiosities and constructions while actively immersing in an ever-expanding process of brainstorming, investigation, and invention. The class looks at a wide history of sculptural ideas and practices through a series of discussions of gallery and museum exhibitions, slide lectures, and readings that support each of the projects.

    ART 156 Advanced Ceramic Sculpture An upper level course focusing on clay construction, with specific emphasis on experimental and expanded approaches. Mixed media and non-traditional approaches to ceramics will be encouraged, incorporating interdisciplinary use of the wood shop, metal shop, and sculpture fabrication facilities. Building on basic techniques, students will begin to develop more advanced projects and further develop technical and conceptual skills. Students will be exposed to a broad range of historical and contemporary contexts, focusing on diverse sculptural ideas and hybrid practices.

    Qualifications: Candidate must have an MFA or PhD in Art or Design, and at least three years of teaching experience or equivalent experience, at the college or university level.
