The School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) seeks a full-time (12-month) academic professional as Senior Business Analyst. This position reports to the Associate Director of Business & Financial Operations and will; manage financial and accounting regulatory compliance aspects within the School of Chemical Sciences Business Office; oversee sponsored research staff in a nationally recognized top-volume research environment; assist the Associate Director of Business and Financial Operations and School/Department Heads with complex administrative decisions; and be responsible for Business Office operations in the absence of the Associate Director.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Full management responsibility of day-to-day operations of a large and complex accounting and reporting system which supplies financial data to faculty, staff, School and Department Heads/Asst. Heads, campus financial and grant offices.
Meet with new faculty and staff to explain sponsored research and other accounting procedures within the School and University.
Supervise (includes: hire, train, assign and review work of, conduct performance evaluations for, address work issues, approve time for, set work schedules, and set goals for) all full and part-time accounting/grants staff, as needed. Answer questions regarding grants administration policy and procedures, oversee proposal workload and assist as needed during high-volume times, and provide assistance to grants staff in correspondence with faculty and/or SPA Pre-
Award and Post-Award on higher-level grants issues as needed.
Act as the Procurement/Travel/Reimbursement approver in the absence of the Associate Director of Business & Financial Operations.
Coordinate with School administrators, faculty and donors to process unrestricted grants/gifts in accordance with University/UIF policy, and work closely with the School/departments and UI/UIF staff during annual Endowment Income Planning process.
Financial administration of 400+ active gift and endowment funds, which includes depositing gift checks, reviewing donor intent, providing guidance to School/departments on gift spending, and working directly with UIF on any gift-related issues as needed.
Financial administration of any State/ICR funds as deemed necessary.
Assist departments in providing overall financial projections for individual faculty as requested and as pertaining to grant funds plus any unrestricted funds in the faculty's portfolio.
Work closely with departmental financial contact regarding questions on certain accounts, corrections to charges, suggestions for deficits, and transfers needed.
Provide backup to the Associate Director for financial reviews, decisions, and discussions as pertaining to the overall School financial health.
Prepare ICR summaries with financial projections for the School and departments.
Supervision of all business and financial operations in the absence of the Associate Director.
- Current affiliation with the University of Illinois.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years professional experience in a business, financial, or accounting environment.
- Minimum four years' experience in higher education in a grants and contracts pre- and post-award environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of University operational procedures and accounting systems, expertise in compliance regulations surrounding campus, state, federal and industrial sources of financial support, knowledge of applicable accounting and auditing principles, extensive knowledge of PC-based tools including Microsoft Excel and Word, and knowledge of sponsored programs (pre- and post-award) activity within a complex research environment.
- Experience with financial analysis and accounting of State/ICR/Grant/Gift funds.
- Previous supervisory responsibility.
- University of Illinois Certified Research Administrator.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting date is as soon as possible after closing date.
