Position Summary: This position is responsible for financial, endowment, investment, and scholarship reporting as well as serving as Controller for The Medical Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. (Foundation). It is the responsibility of this position to ensure the fulfillment of the fiduciary responsibility of the Foundation to the donors, Board of Directors, the UNC Health Care CEO Dean of the School of Medicine, as well as the University. This position is responsible for compliance with all federal, state, foundation, and university requirements, standard practices, and policies as well as ensuring financial statements and financial reports accurately reflect the activity and balances for over 1,700 fund accounts within the organization. This is an advanced position and demands the occupant be an experienced accountant, knowledgeable of not-for-profit organizations (specifically a University- Affiliated and or Associated Entity), complex accounting standards and procedures, Internal Revenue Service rules and regulations, and pronouncements from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the FASB Accounting Standards Codification (ASC), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA), and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) guidelines. This position also requires significant professional experience and background in both software implementations and conversions possessing technical expertise to work successfully with IT in order to provide complete and accurate accounting information and designed financial reports. Given the complexity of the position it is essential the occupant possess maturity, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with internal and external individuals, groups, agencies, the donor public, administrators, faculty, staff, students, etc. This position is responsible for assisting the Vice President of Finance and Administration with review, selection, testing, and implementation of all accounting software utilized for financial reporting. The work of this position includes the formulation and implementation of required policies and other guidelines to ensure the sustainability of the Foundation's non-profit status and affiliation with the University. This position is responsible for the determination and application of accounting, CASE, and other applicable standards and guidelines for all campaign reporting the Foundation would supply to the Foundation's President, Board of Directors, donors, the University, UNC School of Medicine, and University Hospitals. This is a key position for promoting and advancement of the foundation's service to the university, building relationships with donors, and expanding the financial resources and reporting function for the Foundation. As Controller this position supervises all day to day financial operations of the Foundation and supervises all Foundation finance staff. The position reports to the Foundation's Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree, CPA and Graduate Degree preferred

Qualification and Experience: A minimum of 10 years' experience with financial functions, preferably in a university or other non-profit setting; 10 years experience with operational functions; 5 years experience in management; strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills and judgement; familiarity with UNC Chapel Hill or UNC system; strong skills in MS Excel and MS Word.
