Position Summary: The Senior Director will have oversight responsibility for the employee and management relations division of the Office of Human Resources (OHR) which serves a total population of 11,000 employees. This includes day-to-day supervision of seven Employee & Management Relations (EM&R) staff members and managing a full-range of consultative and programmatic services including: supervisory consultations related to employee performance, conduct, and disciplinary issues; assistance and counseling to employees involving workplace concerns and disputes; coordination of the staff grievance process; investigation of staff sexual harassment violence allegations in collaboration with the University's Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office (EOC); operation of the University's structured mediation and facilitated conversations programs; design and delivery of supervisory and managerial training programs, coordination of the staff performance management process, and coordination of the unemployment verification process. The Senior Director is expected to be a subject matter expert in a wide range of federal, state, and University human resources policies and has the authority to interpret relevant State and University policies as necessary and to resolve employee and management disputes using broad discretion. The position incumbent is also the focal point for investigating and addressing alleged or potential workplace violence issues in concert with other University offices, including but not limited to UNC Police and University Counsel.

Education Requirements: A bachelor's degree in human resources, management, business public administration or a related field is required. A master's degree is preferred, but not required.
Qualification and Experience: Seven years or greater of professional human resources experience is required in the area of employee and management relations. Prior supervisory experience is required. Specific experience in delivering employee relations consultative services in a large, complex, and highly decentralized organizational setting similar in scope and complexity to UNC-Chapel Hill is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a broad and diverse range of constituencies. Managerial experience within the higher education setting are valuable, but not firm requirements.
