General Summary: The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a HVAC Mechanic II. The HVAC Mechanic II will perform maintenance and repair of building HVAC systems in a University setting. Work involves skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices of installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of HVAC Systems and equipment, kitchen equipment, and other building systems machinery and equipment. The HVAC Mechanic II will also assess and repair problems with building controls and/or environmental systems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The HVAC Mechanic II will:
  • Service air conditioning, heating units and refrigeration by repairing or replacing parts on condensers, compressors and water and vacuum pumps.
  • Test refrigeration equipment for leaks and repairs or adjusts valves, piping connections, fittings and couplings.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC Systems and equipment, kitchen equipment, and other building systems machinery and equipment.
  • Trouble-shoot large equipment such as boilers, chillers, lab equipment, and kitchen equipment.
  • Diagnose system problems and facilitates corrective action.
  • Perform related work as required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have knowledge of principles, practices, materials, tools and equipment of refrigeration, air conditioning, and/or heating equipment operation, maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.
  • Skill in locating and correcting defects in refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and related equipment, skill in the use of tools and equipment in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to use and climb ladders, use people lifts, and use rigging equipment.
  • Ability to lift items weighing in excess of 50 lbs


Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
