Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree preferred, in human resources, business, or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Experience in human resources, business, or related field.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, knowledge and understanding of people management competencies such as coaching, managing conflict, and communications.
Strong organizational skills.
Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and engagement in all areas of management and customer service.
Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
Training, management/supervisory, and leadership experience.
Familiarity with UW-Madison.
This position resides in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) which is located at the heart of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. CALS is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges devoted to the study of our living world. This position reports to the Associate Dean for CALS Human Resources. This position is a member of the Team of HR Managers in CALS responsible for managing daily HR activities and serving the needs of CALS units (including 19 departments, 14 centers/institutes, 12 agricultural research stations) and CALS employees (~ 3,500 individuals*). This position is responsible for overall HR operations in CALS which includes: recruitment/assessment/selection, staffing, compensation and titling, retention and promotion, payroll and benefits, talent management, workforce relations, training and development, employee assistance, diversity inclusion and engagement, and supervision.
Employee categories include: faculty, academic staff, limited, university staff, employees-in-training, student assistants, student hourly, visitors, honorary, and other (as well as volunteer and related).
