Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree required. Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
0-3 years experience working as a Mechanical Engineer.
Required Knowledge: Strong engineering fundamentals and knowledge of CAD (especially the Solidworks drawing environment). Knowledge and experience of FEA and stress analysis is a plus.
The Physical Sciences Laboratory (PSL) is a research and development laboratory that provides a range of services including consulting, design, fabrication, and calibration services in scientific instrumentation. At our facility south of Madison, which includes a 25,000 square foot machine and electronics shop, PSL offers a highly trained staff in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and physics to address the unique needs of projects of every scale and complexity.
The Mechanical Engineering group at PSL designs and manufactures tools and equipment for complex multi-function scientific instruments with precise mechanism and design requirements. This includes working with ultra-high vacuum, cryogenics, high temperature operation, extreme magnetic properties, high speed, high strength, extreme dimensional stability, non-lubricated moving parts, or other demanding features.
This position carries a range of responsibilities in the design of unique one-of-a-kind scientific apparatus ranging from small delicate components and mechanisms to large-scale multi-ton components, and will encompass a broad range of physical sciences disciplines.
The minimum $50,000 is the starting point of the salary range. Actual salary will be commensurate with experience and education.
