Responsibilities:

Performs basic or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods. Assists the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of results and grants. Maintains the laboratory and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. The appointment generally does not extend beyond two years.

Major Responsibilities
60% Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and experiments

25% Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant proposals

10% Laboratory Management

5% Train Graduate Students

Qualifications:

Must have a Ph.D. in chemistry/biochemistry or related discipline with experience in micro- and nano-scale liquid phase separation, proteomic technologies, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, and protein chemistry evidenced by publications, inventions, or equivalent efforts. The successful applicant must be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.

The Ivanov Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and the Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis at Northeastern University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to perform both basic and applied research using proteomic profiling based on nanoflow liquid phase separation techniques coupled to quantitative mass spectrometry techniques. This position will require the development of nanoLC-MS- or/and CE (capillary electrophoresis)-MS-based ultra-sensitive proteomic technologies for deep characterization of limited availability clinical and biological samples (e.g. rare cells in blood, extracellular microvesicles); quantitative profiling of post-translational modifications and elucidation of molecular mechanisms of biological phenomena in projects supported by NIH Awards and industrial collaborations. The successful candidate will be actively involved in interdisciplinary research with renowned laboratories of the Barnett Institute and the biomedical/biotech community of the Boston area. The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include research, assistance to the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of the generated results as well as in grantsmanship. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining the laboratory and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. The appointment generally does not extend beyond two years.
