The Office of International Affairs was established in 2011, with a mandate to create a centralized resource to encourage and coordinate Stanford's international activities. The Office of International Affairs mission is to help faculty and students maximize global opportunities that enrich research and learning, and to broaden the impact of both.

The Office of International Affairs develops and maintains critical communications and networking infrastructure, and provides Stanford faculty, students, and staff access to dynamic, comprehensive information that is relevant to their global research and education.

The successful candidate for this position will be working with the Office of International Affairs team to achieve four strategic goals:

  • Provide a strategic vision for important international partnerships, while coordinating and streamlining existing approval processes

  • Develop comprehensive country profiles for faculty, departments, and schools to leverage existing resources and relationships to expand their international research and teaching

  • Expand Faculty International Research Exploration Fund to help faculty bring collaborators from the developing world, provide strategic support for new “proof-of-concept” collaborations with new international partners, and help faculty to scale up successful “proof-of-concept” projects

  • Develop student international learning and research opportunities portal to reduce faculty burden and improve mentoring, improve university oversight and risk mitigation, and increase transparency and accessibility to funding opportunities for student applicants


    Administer and support the 4 above-mentioned Office of International Affairs goals under general supervision.

    • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities. Act as key contact.
    • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the office.
    • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for the office.
    • Represent The Office of International Affairs within the Dean of Research division and other academic and administrative units. May also represent The Office of International Affairs to external constituencies.
    • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include communications, events, training, and/or conferences. May participate in development of budgets or oversee budgets and monitor and approve expenditures.
    • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.
    * - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Education & Experience:

    Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

    Master's degree in international relations or other international fields preferred

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Familiarity with Agile methodology and principles of Service Design a plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi-task.
    • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
    • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
    • Relevant subject matter knowledge.
    • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision.
    Certifications and Licenses:
    • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
    • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
    • Occasionally use a telephone.
    • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
