The College of Arts and Letters (COAL) at Missouri State University, in Springfield, Missouri, seeks applications for a Director of the Missouri Fine Arts Academy (MFAA) beginning July 1, 2018. The Director will report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters and will also hold a tenure-track Assistant Professor joint faculty appointment that serves two of the following seven departments with teaching and creative contributions: Art and Design, Communication, Theatre and Dance, Music, English, Modern and Classical Languages and Media, Journalism and Film. The academy director is responsible for recruiting applicants and overseeing the selection process; communicating with applicants and their high school counselors and teachers; designing the curriculum and planning the entire three-week series of events and programs. Additional duties include maintaining records, communicating with MFAA alumni and establishing an alumni database, development activities that will eventually result in an endowment for the program, and promoting the program in the community and throughout the state. The MFAA is a three-week residential program in integrated arts for rising Missouri juniors and seniors. Students are selected competitively to participate. Admitted students participate in a variety of arts-related activities (music, visual arts, dance, theater, creative writing) to expand their horizons and to understand the role of the arts in society. This program is part of what gives Missouri State its excellent reputation as a place to study the arts. Required Qualifications: Candidate must have terminal degree (doctorate or 60-hour MFA) affiliated with the arts and letters departments in the college and experience in performance, directing and arts advocacy. Must have at least five years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level and working in an interdisciplinary environment. Must demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Must be successful in teaching, research/creative endeavor and service; have excellent communication skills.
