Fire Suppression Systems Technician: (Full-time employment opportunities & internships)
Description / Summary of duties: Seeking candidates who are trained or interested in becoming trained technicians to inspect and maintain automated fire protection systems including suppression, fire alarm, sprinkler, and explosion protection. Additional responsibilities may include inspecting/servicing emergency lighting modules and portable fire extinguishers. Work involves functional testing, weighing, and filling out detailed documentation/forms for record keeping. Candidates must have an aptitude for comprehending basic computer menus and possess general knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work. Typical Work Day: A typical day will involve traveling to single or multiple customer locations. While at each location, the technician will perform inspections of equipment in accordance with National Fire Protection Association requirements & local standards. Another typical day may involve participating in the fabrication of a customized control panel at one of our facilities for a customer-specific application. Periodic travel throughout the U.S. and an occasional trip to Canada & Mexico may occur.
Work environments: Work environments include commercial, industrial, institutional, and government facilities. These would include but not be limited to data processing centers, heat treating facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturing, automotive painting & assembly, food processing/packaging, hospitals, general office spaces, and all types of medical care facilities. Equipment Locations: Equipment is located on ceilings, above ceilings, under raised floors and adjacent to various types of processing or manufacturing equipment. An individual will generally be on his/her feet a good part of each day and will occasionally work from ladders, scaffolds and some hard to reach areas. Safety procedures must always be followed. Each employee will successfully complete comprehensive safety training.
Individuals in this Job Role will:
• Be reliable, conscientious, courteous, and detailed oriented
• Demonstrate and/or develop an ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and job specifications.
• Demonstrate and/or develop an ability to understand and utilize software and electrical technologies.
• Be proficient in Microsoft programs, including Word and Excel
• Either have a valid Michigan Fire Alarm Specialty Technician's license and/or NICET Level II certification, or Fire Defense Equipment Co., will enroll them in the State approved apprenticeship program.
• Perform self-study to obtain technical proficiency and grow a career in the fire protection industry.
• Be willing to work overtime
• Have a valid driver's license; 'C'-CDL with Hazmat endorsement is preferred.
• Have a reasonably clean drivers record and no felony convictions.
• Undergo drug testing as part of the employment process.
