Seeking a strategic and creative communicator to manage media relations for the College of the Holy Cross.  As Assistant Director of Media Relations, you will work with local and national media to showcase the groundbreaking research and scholarship of our faculty and the incredible accomplishments and impact of our students and alumni. And you will use your skills to communicate the mission and values that drive those achievements.  In this role, you will work with a talented, dedicated team of writers, designers, developers, multimedia producers and strategists to enhance the national reputation of the College. You will collaborate with faculty, students and administrators to tell their story, and that of Holy Cross, through traditional, digital and social media. Your creative juices will flow with new ideas for generating publicity. 

Facilitates and coordinates College-wide media relations, print, and digital efforts to increase Holy Cross' exposure in local and regional media. Researches and writes campus news, human interest, and trend stories for distribution to press via press releases, pitches, social media postings; assists with events; and supports Director in implementing strategic media relations plan. 

Researches, writes and edits press releases for distribution to media, publication on College website, and dissemination through digital communications channels. Writes and pitches College news, events, human interest and trend stories to support strategic plan. Follows up as needed to garner media placement. Responds to all media inquiries and requests.  Facilitates and schedules campus interviews, provides background information and writes statements in response. Conducts media training and prepares talking points as needed for students, faculty and staff. Develops relationships with local and regional media to become a trusted source for expert commentary, news and stories. Prepare media background kits as needed. Maintain up-to-date media lists for key subject areas to facilitate distribution. Provides planning and administrative support for on- and off-campus promotional/marketing events. Actively monitors and distributes Holy Cross media mentions to faculty and administrators. Oversees College Events Calendar.

B.A. in English, communications, marketing or related discipline. Demonstrated research and writing skills. Minimum 3 years professional experience in journalism or public relations. Working knowledge of local, national and international media operations, with a track record of publishing or broadcasting stories and/or established media contacts.  Highly organized and detail oriented.  Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet often tight media deadlines. Higher education experience preferred. Occasional night and weekend work required.
