The George Washington University (GW) and its School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) invite applications for a Research Associate Professor or Professor to serve as the Research Director of its nanofabrication facility. The University has recently made substantial investments in a new Class 100 nanofabrication facility and a state-of-the-art electron microscopy center located within its brand-new Science & Engineering Hall (https://nic.gwu.edu/). The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) administers the newly established Nanofabrication and Imaging Center (NIC), the aim of which is to enhance the research, research training and educational endeavors undertaken by the four founding schools - School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), Columbian College of Art and Sciences (CCAS), School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) and Milken Institute of Public Health (SPH). In addition to serving as a research core facility, NIC is responsible to engage in research, teaching and research-training activities through facilitating collaborations between the founding schools, the University-wide research community, and the region. In his/her administrative capacity, the Director will report to the GW Associate VP for Research, and be responsible to implement the recommendations from the NIC Advisory Committee. In his/her role as a faculty member, the Director will have a Research Associate Professor or Professor appointment within SEAS and report to the Dean of the School.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director is expected to provide scientific and administrative leadership to the Nanofabrication Center, grow the Center's internal and external user base, lead or foster large scale nanotechnology research programs and work across the various schools of the University to advance educational programs in nanotechnology. Outreaching and engaging areas of research that are not traditionally engaged directly with nanotechnology (e.g., Public Health, Medicine, Cancer Research, Neuroscience) is highly expected, thus impacting these field in transformative and innovative way. SEAS is expecting to play a central role to capitalize on this nanofabrication investment. Depending on the research expertise, the candidate may also receive a courtesy appointment in related disciplines within GW.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in a discipline relevant to nanofabrication. Applicants must demonstrate leadership roles in nanofabrication clean rooms, a solid publication record, have established a strong, externally sponsored research program, and be willing to engage in existing and future large collaborative research endeavors across departments and other schools. Applicants must also have demonstrated the effective use of clean room facilities as an integral part of their research and a track-record of experimental research in nanotechnology. A demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels is also required.
