Job Description Summary:
The Compensation team is a specialized area within University Human Resources dedicated to job analysis, merit administration, pay data collection and evaluation, pay structures, job classifications and compliance. Compensation administers the university's pay programs, including base pay, bonus payments, and merit programs for staff, and provides data-driven consulting services to make informed decisions regarding employee pay. Compensation works to ensure that standard and consistent practices that foster a compensation culture that complies with all local, state, federal and applicable statutes and regulations and the university's policies and procedures are applied.
The GWU Compensation Team is searching for a full-time service-focused Compensation Consultant who will be responsible for partnering with HR Service Delivery (HRSD) and subject matter expert consultants to provide compensation analysis and consultative support to facilitate and expedite key HR transactions. These actions will range from moderately complex to complex. Primary job duties will include providing consultative compensation guidance, in addition to technical and analytical support, that comprises analyzing and evaluating jobs and determining their classification, providing pay recommendations, and advising on initial requests for exceptions. This position will also provide compensation guidance, training, and coaching to HRSD and other internal and external partners as needed, and participates as a key member for compensation projects and larger HR projects involving other HR departmental stakeholders. This role may serve as a project lead for Compensation projects as assigned. This position collects and analyzes data for projects and initiatives in support of compensation strategic objectives and for recommendations to leadership, and proactively works to maintain the data integrity and accuracy of compensation data throughout the university systems.
Other duties include leading, participating in and Q/A-reviewing salary survey submissions, participating in and collaborating on annual merit administration, conducting compensation market analyses and internal equity reviews, producing routine and requested reporting (to include auditing) and recommending changes to Compensation practices and procedures in support of efficiency and compensation strategic goals. We are seeking qualified applicants who are analytical in nature combined with a clear focus on thoroughness and quality of information and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively convey compensation observations, trends and recommendations through reports. A client-service oriented attitude is critical to this position. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This position will be primarily located at the Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn, VA, but may require periodic travel to the Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington DC. This position will report to the Assistant Director, Compensation.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 1 year of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
