Position Summary: The Department of English and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a One-Year Lecturer position in Scottish Gaelic Studies with a start date of July 1, 2018. Candidates should have a PhD in Scottish Gaelic Studies, Celtic Studies or Scottish Studies and preferably at least one year of university teaching experience. We are looking for candidates with fluency in the Scottish Gaelic language; thorough understanding of Scottish Gaelic literary tradition and literary criticism; strong teaching experience at the undergraduate level; strong ability to communicate with public and work with university administration. An awareness of the Scottish Highland diaspora in North America would be welcome. Duties will include teaching at minimum 5 courses (either a 2/3 or 3/2 load), which may include courses that meet departmental needs for supporting the English and Comparative Literature major requirements. The candidate will also deliver a talk to the wider community (UNC and general public) and work with UNC administration and the community to explore how to develop Scottish Gaelic Studies at UNC-CH.

Qualification and Experience: Candidates are also expected to present evidence of excellence in teaching at a College or University related to their field of specialization. Expertise in Scottish or Gaelic Literature or Studies is preferred.
