The Florida Channel - located in Tallahassee, FL - produces 24/7, year-round coverage of all three branches of state government. Programming includes gavel-to-gavel coverage of a wide variety of state proceedings, along with a wide variety of documentary and public affairs programs and segments covering issues of interest and importance to all Floridians. The programming is delivered statewide by satellite and is also available on the Internet.


Work with the WFSU IT Director and TFC Chief Engineer to maintain the AVID tapeless network, servers and end-user PC and MAC workstations and in-house phone system. Responsible for maintaining software updates on all TFC computer systems, assist with maintaining a replacement computer plan, oversee/maintain TFC webstreams, both local and remote; and provide customer service to all TFC end-users.
Assist the Florida Channel Chief Engineer to maintain the robotic cameras used in Legislative coverage, provide regular and routine maintenance, maintain studio and infrastructure equipment through the associated computer interfaces, maintain and service remote events crew (REC) equipment and robotic camera control systems.
Assist with the planning and designing of improvements and modifications to the technical facilities and Capitol complex; assist master control staff with directing Legislative/committee meetings; assists as crew member for REC - travel may be required; responsible for switching and routing of audio and video signals in a multi-channel video environment and fill-in as crew on remote events productions as needed.
Perform maintenance to the component level on a wide variety of broadcast audio and video equipment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and reach the top of a 6 foot rack.
Supervise the operation and maintenance of microwave transmitters and receivers, used for terrestrial connectivity as well as signal transmission via satellite and fiber optic. Other duties as assigned.


Associate's degree or vocational/technical training and a minimum of four years of related work experience.
Operational knowledge of television station equipment,
Must be self-motivated, have good time-management skills and able to perform assigned duties with little supervision.
Demonstrated ability to work through difficult and stressful situations.
Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Ability to effectively identify basic problems as they occur and take appropriate steps to resolve with minimal downtime.
Must have the ability to comprehend schematics and technical manuals.
Proficient in test equipment for use in installation, maintenance and repair of broadcast systems.
Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to satisfy the travel and flexible schedule requirements.
A valid Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain license upon hire.


Knowledge of AVID workflow/editing environments.

Anticipated Salary Range

Anticipated hiring range is low to mid-$40,000’s annually – dependent on education and experience.

Pay Plan

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.


Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm; however, hours will vary and may include weekends and evenings. Flexibility is required. Will participate in the weekly on-call engineer schedule. This is an after-hours duty that may be assistance by phone or require a return trip to the facility.
